In the U.S., over 2.5 grandparents are raising grandchildren in parent-absent households. This session will discuss the reasons why grandparents find themselves in this often unplanned situation and the challenges and joys they encounter. Project Healthy Grandparents, an Atlanta based program supporting grandparents raising grandchildren, will be described.
