Course Description


Instructor: Herbert Benario, Professor Emeritus of Classics, Emory University

The new movie version of Lew Wallace’s Ben-Hur suggests that now may be an appropriate occasion to read this novel along with Henryk Sienkiewicz’s Quo Vadis -- possibly the greatest fictional treatments of important periods in the history of the Roman Empire. We shall discuss these novels against the historical background of the first century AD.
