Course Description

This self-paced online course aims to raise awareness and understanding of historical legacies contributing to structural and social determinants of health perpetuating power asymmetry, biases, and systemic barriers to global health equity. The course highlights strategies and methods for recognizing, introspecting, and undertaking measures to adopt best practices that promote equity through both individual and institutional endeavors grounded in culturally responsive, ethical, and meaningful collaborations.

Learner Outcomes

  • Examine the historical legacies of power imbalances that perpetuate inequalities.
  • Describe terms such as racism, sexism, ableism, structural discrimination, and other forms of discrimination.
  • Define the concepts of intersectionality and health equity in the context of global health.
  • Engage in critical reflection, self-awareness, co-creation of knowledge and elevation of indigenous knowledge and practices.
  • Describe strategies, approaches, and practices for engaging in respectful, equitable, and culturally sensitive collaborations and partnerships.
