Please submit a writing sample as part of this course application. You can attach files as: .doc, .docx, .pdf, or .txt.

  • Students currently in the program will need to submit 4,000-8,000 words of their work-in-progress.
  • Students who are not in our program will need to submit a 4,000-8,000 word writing sample.

Registration for this course ends three weeks before the start date to allow for all student submissions to be reviewed and for students admitted to the course.

Submission Guidelines

  • Workshops are shared experiences with each reader bringing their own perception and experience. Everyone in class will read your work; do not include anything you do not want the group to read.
  • If your work consists of trauma such as child abuse, incest, or rape, please label the submission with a trigger warning to allow readers to prepare themselves prior to reading.
  • Submissions are stronger when they refrain from gratuitous sex, violence, excessive gore, or emphasizing blatant stereotypes. Consider the elements you place in your text and whether they are truly adding to the value of the story. Participants may be asked to revise their submission at the instructor’s discretion.
